1. The Company
The Luxembourg Convention Bureau (LCB), created by the Ministry of the Economy and the City of Luxembourg, is the Grand Duchy’s official representative for the business events sector in the country. The LCB is dedicated to raising the profile of Luxembourg as a leading business events destination, focusing on the acquisition and facilitation of international conferences and business events in the Grand Duchy. The team of experienced events professionals at LCB is eager to help plan events, providing assistance to business event organizers every step of the way. This includes connecting organizers with the right experts, helping find the perfect venue, lodging, catering, and entertainment, and supplying marketing material and visitor information to maximize delegate attendance. The LCB also supports local members and partners with guidance and sustained marketing efforts. As a non-profit organization, the LCB provides free resources, information, and support for planning business events. It works closely with local, reputable suppliers and providers from the events industry to offer the best products and services. The vision of the LCB is to establish Luxembourg as an undiscovered gem and the best destination in Europe for corporate, association, and incentive events, showcasing the country’s emergence as a vibrant center in fields such as clean energy, scientific research, and commercial space exploration.
2. Purpose of the Position
The CEO will coordinate and manage the day-to-day operations of the organization. The ideal candidate will build and model a great company culture, provide inspired leadership to the small, highly dedicated team, establish a strong working relationship with the board of directors, stakeholders, and partners, and set a course for the LCB’s overall strategy. The CEO must effectively represent Luxembourg externally while managing internal operations effectively.
3. Key Responsibilities
- Overseeing the daily operations of the Luxembourg Convention Bureau and its team, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
- Coordinating and managing overall operations of the LCB.
- Developing and articulating the LCB’s strategic vision for future development.
- Providing strategic, financial, and operational leadership, working closely with the Board of Directors and the team.
- Leading the development of the organization’s long- and short-term strategies and setting strategic goals.
- Developing, implementing, and assessing strategic plans to elevate operational performance.
- Monitoring industry trends to competitively position the LCB.
- Fostering a positive, inspiring, and collaborative work environment, empowering the team to achieve company-wide goals.
- Developing and executing business strategies, including marketing and sales activities, annual budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Identifying new opportunities for Luxembourg’s business events sector development and destination promotion.
- Establishing effective collaborations with key partners and stakeholders in Luxembourg and abroad, such as Luxembourg for Tourism, Luxinnovation, Luxembourg City Tourist Office, associations, knowledge institutions, and corporate entities.
- Building strong working relationships with the local business events sector, stakeholders, and partners.
- Representing the Bureau effectively at all levels with potential partners, stakeholders, and in the media, both nationally and internationally.
- Reporting systematically to the Board of Directors of LCB.
- Ensuring robust financial health through financial reporting, forecasting, planning, and analysis.
- Monitoring budgets, resources, and procedures, innovating and adapting as necessary to meet goals.
- Allocating resources effectively to achieve defined objectives.
4. Experience and Professional Qualifications
- Professional and intellectual capacities at the academic or higher professional education level.
- Passionate about Luxembourg, or possessing a genuine interest in rapidly cultivating a deep appreciation for its culture and business landscape.
- Expertise in business events and knowledge of Luxembourg’s economic sectors, products, services, and assets.
- Strong capacity to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and partners.
- Minimum of 10 years of proven experience in a senior management position, preferably as a Director General.
- Proven track record in setting up and managing a convention bureau, a destination marketing organization, or another hospitality organization.
- Proficient in financial analysis and budget forecasting.
- Demonstrated expertise in accounting standards and compliance with financial regulations.
- Fluent in English with excellent presentation skills; knowledge of a second language (French or German) is required, and additional language skills are beneficial.
